On June 9th members of RCBS attended a Vocational Tour of Jiwa Community Garden in Canggu (48 are), facilitated by Djuca, Lenny and Krishna of Jiwa, and organized by PP Alex.
Members attending were, P. Sarita, VP Jeni, PE Patrick, Sec. Anita, PP Alex, Rtns. Sally, Ray, Manfred, and with guest PAG Julia.
During the vocational tour, members have been introduced to work methods and procedures, such as the “Hot Berkeley Method”, used to produce compost, which takes 18 days by using heated water in pipes and turning the compost, thus mixing it. The healthy, free-range chickens on the site help with this process by finding food in the compost.
60-80% of all waste is organic. For productive gardens there are communal and sponsored garden plots with regenerate agriculture practices, including animal in the ecosystems. Community food is production, which presently is given to SOS (Scholars for Sustenance) to deliver food daily to the needy of Bali.
