What a successful evening we had last night welcoming the Japanese Rotarians and their guests from the Rotary Club of Asakusa.
The evening started a little late because the visitors had been delayed for six hours in Semarang waiting for their flight to Bali. But when they arrived, President Raphael (a Frenchman) welcomed them to our club with a speech in fluent Japanese, surprising us all, and then Vice President Yuki (a Japanese) gave us an English translation.
Following P. Raphael’s speech, Vice President Yuki gave the visitors a comprehensive slide show setting out details of our club’s current Rotary Service projects .
This was followed by Past President Tomii of the RC of Asakusa giving us a short report upon his club activities and an explanation upon why his club had become involved in the Global Grant Epilepsy project in Semarang, which has just been completed.
After the formal part of the evening, we all settled down to a sumptuous three-course dinner with the visitors and our club members mixing freely on tables.
Did you know that one person at that meeting was an ex Japanese TV star, who had played the part of a wicked woman gang leader??!!!
