Charter President (CP) T. Patrick van Kampen was born 80 miles west of Chicago, Illinois, USA, in a small farming community on 1 July 1952. After a brief stay there, his parents decided to return to Coldwater, Michigan, another small rural town, where he completed all his formal education. In 1970, after he graduated from High School, he attended a Community College for two years before heading to Western Michigan University where he completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree qualifying him to become a High School history teacher.
While he was completing his BS degree, he discovered a unique program whereby he could complete his student teaching/practice in an International School overseas. He was accepted to this program and eventually was sent to the International School of Milan for a three-month period. Long story short, he continued living and working there for another 6.5 years. He worked at the American School of Milan for the majority of his stay – going from classroom teacher to Assistant Elementary School Principal.
After marrying a Lancashire Lass and having a beautiful little girl by the name of Tracey Victoria, they headed to Taiwan in 1981, where CP Patrick became the School Principal of the American School of Maanshan. After four years in the southern part of Taiwan – which was rather isolated, they headed to Surabaya where CP Patrick became the Headmaster of the International School.
In 1987, CP Patrick felt he needed to further his education, so he returned to Michigan and obtained his Ph.D. in education from the well-known – Michigan State University.
From 1989 until 1993, CP Patrick worked in three different Schools: Trinity School – Atlanta, Georgia as the Elementary School Principal, Jakarta International School as the Director of Curriculum and the Bali International School as the Headmaster.
In 1993, CP Patrick wanting to fulfill a long-time DREAM, opened a school in Denpasar with his very good friend – Ibu Tjok – which they named the Pranidhana Language School. Unfortunately, in 2002 after the first Bali Bombing, CP Patrick had a serious think about keeping the school open or not. Finally, after several more years of so so business and the 2005 Bombing, he and Ibu Tjok unfortunately decided to close the school permanently.
When one chapter finishes, there is always a new one to start. In 2004, CP Patrick, along with his business partner decided to try their hands at exporting Balinese Handicraft items to the USA and operating Mall Christmas stores. After four very success years, CP Patrick had an opportunity to sell his business – which he couldn’t refuse.
In 2005, CP Patrick started to divide his time between Rotary and helping his second business partner operate his numerous SPAs and Salons in Seminyak, Sanur and Ubud.
From 2016 – 2020, CP Patrick was the Head of School for the Doremi Excellent School, located in Renon, Denpasar – a national plus (SPK) school. In June of 2020, CP decided to retire for a third and final time.
In January 2009, CP Patrick became a grandfather for the first time, starting a very new chapter in his life. Holly Ava Winters along with her baby sister – Isabella Grace Winters, born in 2012 – are bringing much happiness and joy into his life.
