ANNOUNCEMENTS

* IPP Urs:

- warmly welcomed Members, Visiting Rotarians and Visitors.

- noted apologies from Rtns. Cathryn, Ray, Sec. Tricia, Raphaël, Robert E., SAA Mari, P Patricia, PP Anita, Johannes, Agnes, Udo, Handy and Muriel.

- THANKED the following members for inviting some Guests to our meeting last week:

CP Patrick for inviting Paula Gillham.
Rtn. Detlev for inviting Pete Ruwart.
Rtn. Peter L. for inviting Patrizia Franco Lindinger.

- invited Visiting Rtn. Mae Berkel , wife of DG (6670) Hans Berkel of the RC of Centerville, Ohio, USA to say a few words about her husband's Club's program called - "Student Service Learning." Every year the club sponsors 5 - 6 high school students to go to another country to participate in a service project. They work on the project, but also get to experience the culture of the country where they are visiting. Last year, the Club sent a group of 5 students to Brazil where they worked on a vocational school for under-served children. They build a greenhouse, installed a computer lab and painted some classrooms.  Rtn. Mae said that she hoped that the RCBS might be interested in setting up a program like this in collaboration with the RC of Centerville, Ohio .

- thanked Rtn. Mae for her interesting INVITATION and for her GENEROUS donation of Rp. 500,000 to the Club's Cleft Lip/Palate project.

- thanked Rtn. Detlev for raising yet another Rp. 1,430,000 from his now VERY famous Sunday luncheons for our Cleft Lip/Palate Project. Total collected to date - Rp. 54,209,000 !!! Rtn. Detlev indicated that since he has already achieved his TARGET of Rp. 52,000,000 ...... he now be making a NEW ONE. This week he will tell us what it is ......... Keep up the FANTASTIC work - Rtn. Detlev .......

- informed the Club that PE Robert K. had recently sent all the members the list of Candidates for the 2010 - 2011 Board of Directors.  Elections will be held at the Club's AGM on 16 December at the Anantara Resort .  If a member knows he/she will be unable to attend the AGM, please let P Patricia know ASAP. Absentee Ballots will be sent out after 10 December.

President Nominee
(President for the 2011 - 2012 Rotary Year)
PP Robin Dougherty CP T. Patrick van Kampen, Ph.D.

Vice President
Andrew Charles  H. Peter Lindinger

Secretary
Treasurer Sergeant-at-Arms
Barbara Mackenzie
Peter Erni
Ivan Casadevall

- acknowledged Rtn. Robert E.'s hard work regarding the Club's MG 68894 - Water Wells - Lewa, East Sumba. Shortly, the FULL report of ALL of his work will be posted on the Club's Website. Thank You, Rtn. Robert for being so TENACIOUS in completing this very worthwhile Project ........

- mentioned the very interesting article in the Jakarta Post (24 November, p. 28) regarding the RC of Bali Ubud's Temesi WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM in Gianyar, Bali. PP David Kuper - nearly single handily created this Project on his own. PP David has visited our Club in the past as a Guest Speaker explaining the benefits of this Program for the Ubud Community. For more details, please visit the RCBU's website: http://www.rotaryubud.org/ projects/waste-project.htm

- happily announced that Rtn. Ray is responding VERY positively to his medical treatment.  Hopefully, we'll see his SMILING FACE at a Club meeting - VERY VERY soon.

- told the members that the Fellowship Bowling Night will be scheduled for Wednesday, 25 Nov . Tres. Peter and CP Patrick are hoping that this will turn into a MONTHLY Fellowship Evening .........

* CP Patrick told the members that he had brought along some WINE to share for a number of reasons ...... Firstly, he said it was because he had done such a BAD job in explaining the Questionnaire two weeks ago, secondly, he wanted to Congratulate Rtn. Gareth on the birth of his NEW Son - Master JAMES JOHN WARNE JJ and lastly, he said it was very nice seeing IPP Urs - chairing the meeting ........

CP Patrick then told the members that the CLUB was still looking for funds for RI's "END POLIO NOW"  program , so he suggested that if a member wanted a second glass of wine ...... he/she could make a little donation of Rp. 20,000 to this program .........

Before sitting back down, he mentioned that recently there had been some very interesting comments on the District Mailing list - Indonesian vs English.  A President of a Bali Club had requested that it would be helpful if the notices could be in English (almost all are in Indonesia today). Comments from around the District ranged from " LEARN Indonesia" to "Maybe some of the important notices should be in both Indonesia and English."  CP Patrick commented that some months ago, he had suggested to another Bali  President that since this was a "minority" problem - the SIX English-Speaking Bali Clubs should come up with a creative way to solve this communication problem. Maybe the Presidents, at their next monthly meeting, could discuss this issue ........

GUEST  SPEAKER

PP Mark, just back from Perth, Australia, gave the members an Update regarding Dhani (seriously burned after a motorcycle accident in May 2007) and his father, Achmad , (lost his leg in the accident).

On the first day, PP Mark attended the RC Western Endeavour, and told them that Dhani would need approximately A$ 10,000 (US$ 9,100, £ 5,500) for his operations. Currently, the RC of Bali Seminyak has A$ 6,000 in its Dhani account, but an additional A$ 4,000 is needed as soon as possible. After his talk, the RC Western Endeavour invited PP Mark to return in the near future and continue to keep the members updated.

The next day, PP Mark met with Prof. Fiona Woods of the McCombe Foundation to decide when Dhani would be admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. After a thorough examination, Prof. Woods agreed to do the first operation the following week and would waive her professional fees.
Happily, the skin-graft operation was a HUGH success. Dhani is now able to relax his face and release his lower lip to help him eat more comfortably. More operations are required - plastic surgery, skin grafting to help make his skin more elastic. Incredibly, Dhani has maintained a positive outlook on life throughout his ordeal.

PP Mark - in his fundraising attempts  - understood that the local media would be a good way to get exposure for Dhani and Achmad's plight. Channel 7 TV station was contacted and very luckily, Dhani and Achmad were invited to tell their story. The next day, the West Australian Newspaper called for an interview and promised to do more update articles in the future .........

During his stay, PP Mark attended 10 different Rotary meetings attempting to raise funds for Dhani and Achmad.  He visited the following clubs: the RC Mandurah City, the RC of Perth, RC of Swan Valley and the RC of Western Endeavour. He said that EVERYONE he met in Perth were very hospitable and kind to all three of them ........

Lastly, PP Mark wanted to thank the Canggu Club for arranging the use of a car while he was in Perth. In addition, he thanked the Pier 21 Apartment Hotel Fremantle for providing the three of them with free accommodations during their stay.

For further details about Dhani and Achmad's progress, please visit the following link: http://www.indovillas.com/ danni/dhani-latest-updates. html
