Rtn. Virginie for her 2nd contribution of Rp. 2 million largely
collected from the guests at the Harris Resort -
Kuta and then topped up by her and her generous staff. These funds
will be allocated to the Club's Cleft Lip / Palate Project. In
addition, Rtn. Virginie has taken it upon herself to collect second-hand
clothing (especially shoes which have proven very popular) and deposits
these each month at the SMILE SHOP which does a brisk
business in raising further funds for Cleft Lip/Palate operations. Rtn.
Virginie has now PLACED a LARGE BOX in our MEETING ROOM for
the collection of further second-hand clothing/shoes etc. Please
tidy your wardrobes and place what you don't need anymore into this box
and make Rtn Virginie SMILE broadly!
- announced that we have a very important visitor who will
join us at our meeting this week - this is DG Thomas
Aquinas who will be outlining District 3400's

Please make an EXTRA EFFORT to attend this
very IMPORTANT meeting .........
- told the members that Monday's (28 Sept.) fellowship event - Tea
and Poetry at the Biku Teahouse - was a great success
and that a full house was achieved. This was not entirely
made up of all Rotary members, but a big thank you to Rtns.
Rosmarie, Andrew, T. Peter, IPP Urs, PP Anita, Helen, and
Chris, who did make the effort to participate and I hope
they all enjoyed it as much as I did. The speaker, Kadek
Krishna, was mesmerizing in his delivery of the
poetry he chose to read. This combined with a sumptuous afternoon
high tea indeed made for a very special fellowship event. Thanks
to PP Anita and Rtn.
Chris who very kindly stepped in at
short notice to help with collecting money/selling raffle
tickets. A very special thank you also to Rtn
Xavier who answered my request for a raffle prize and donated
a voucher for a villa for two people for two nights, including
breakfast at the one and only Sofitel Hotel. Our
host, PP Asri (RC of Bali Ubud Sunset) of
Biku Teahouse, was thrilled to win this fabulous prize. The
proceeds of nearly Rp. 1.5 million will
go to top up the Club's "END POLIO NOW" contribution.

Pak Kadek Krishna mesmerizing
his enthusiastic audience.

Club members and other participants taking a moment to listen
to some "Soothing" Poetry.
- reminded the members about the Hard Rock Hotel's
Rock n' Run - the 9th Chapter which will take place

staff and friends SUPPORT this effort, she'd like to THANK
the following individuals for agreeing to participate/sponsor
individuals: Rtn. Rosmarie (a runner + two friends), Rtn.
Ivan of the Anantara Resort (10 staff), Rtn.
Virginie (15 staff) of the Harris Resort - Kuta and IPP
Urs (12 staff) of the Discovery Kartika Plaza .
Proceeds (approximately Rp. 40 million )
will go to the SMILE HOUSE !!!
- announced that there would be some changes in the club's Fundraising Committee
(FRC). Chairperson Barbara's energies will be concentrated in other areas
for the remainder of the year. Sec. Tricia has tendered her resignation
due to business and personal commitments. The Club will miss these members'
input / time / energy with regard to the work they put into this committee.
Fortunately, Rtn. Robin has volunteered to fill the void for the moment while
the FRC regroups. Rtn. Robin will shortly be calling on members to help
with this committee. Please be READY to join this Committee as it
has big plans to raise big money in order to help some less fortunate individuals
in our community. Without all our input, a handful of committed members
cannot do it alone, so please help to put our club on the map this year with
some great fundraising events.
- reminded the Club about the RC of Bali Ubud's fabulous Halloween Ball which
will be held on Saturday, 31 October at the Arma
Gallery in Ubud - please check the flyer that has already been sent

| GUEST SPEAKER |
VP Handy introduced the President of the Rotaract Club of Bali Seminyak
- Syarnila Afriza Herista - otherwise known as Riza - who gave our
Club members a brief presentation regarding the work and dreams of their club
for this upcoming year.
President Riza started her talk by introducing the members of her Board and her
other Club members. They currently have 13 members, BUT are looking for MORE. She
asked our Club to encourage their staff to consider becoming a Rotaractor - TODAY.
She then explained the Activities that their members have been involved in during
the last few months:
- Handover Dinner
- Meeting the NEW
Advisors Dinner - VP Handy and Rtn. Gareth.
- Seminar
Training with IPDRR Anastasia Tutik.
- GSE Presentation
by Rtr. Putu Adhi Prihandana.
- Save the Environment
Talk Show.
- Hosting DRR Wie Yu Chuang from Melaka, Malaysia.
Following this information, President Riza talked about their most recent project:
a. Ramadhan Project - Breaking the Fast with orphan children in Bung Tomo,
Denpasar.
She then took a few minutes and discussed the areas where they would like to
IMPROVE their Club:
- Develop a new "interactive" Website.
- Distribute
their Club Bulletin every three months.
- Initiate a Sister
Club program.
Once President Riza had finished with this information, she told our members
about an ambitious Project they were working on at the moment. Their Club
has decided to build two additional bathrooms / toilets for the Al-Karomah
Orphanage (100 children) located in Melaya, Negara, Jembrana,
Bali . The estimated budget is Rp. 7,000,000.
Her club is also considering a monthly teaching program for children at
the TPA located in Batu Bulan.
In order to have projects, President Riza's members have decided to have
three Fundraiser this year: Participate in the RCBS Bike-A-Fund, sell
second-hand clothing/hotel towels & linen and sell RAC merchandise
(T-shirts, pins, accessories, etc.)
President Riza ended her talk by saying that her members were very interested
in Professional Development (Leadership Skills) and were trying to lineup
some good Guest Speakers (hint Rotarians) for the future. She also
said that she hoped that some of her members would be able to attend
the upcoming APRRC Conference in Singapore in November and the RCOT Conference
in Surabaya next May.

| OCTOBER is VOCATIONAL MONTH |
Vocational Service focuses on:
- Adherence to and promotion of
the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including
fair treatment of employers, employees, associates, competitors,
and the public.
- The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations,
not just those that are pursued by Rotarians.
- The contribution of your vocational talents to solving
the problems of society and meeting the needs of the
community.
During October, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on this
important avenue of Rotary service. Discussions on vocational
service can lead to projects that not only develop the
ethical consciousness and vocational skills of Rotarians
but also the talents within their communities. Vocational Service Month is
an opportunity to begin year-long vocational service activities, ranging
from Rotary discussions to awards to community projects.
Following are some suggested activities to undertake during
Vocational Service Month:
- Devote the first meeting in October
to examining the second Avenue of Service, including The
Four-Way Test and The Declaration of Rotarians in Business
and Professions. After expanding members' awareness, solicit
their input in planning projects for the remainder of the
year.
- Introduce a "mini-classifications talk" series in
which each member gives a five-minute talk on his or
her vocation. Schedule one speaker for the beginning
of each meeting until everyone has made a presentation. The purpose
of these talks is to promote vocational awareness among
Rotarians and help them recognize the worthiness of
all useful occupations.
- Present a vocational award to someone in the community
who has exemplified outstanding professional achievement
while maintaining very high ethical standards.
Promote the presentation within the community, and consider
making it an annual October event.
- Invite experts to give a presentation on the vocational
needs of the community and develop a project in response
to those needs. Possible projects could focus on developing
character, providing career information to youth, mentoring
small businesses, or organizing workshops that provide
employees with new skills.
- Encourage club members to put their vocational skills
to work as a Rotary Volunteer. Volunteer opportunities
are available on ProjectLINK, a valuable resource that
lists many vocational projects that clubs and districts
can also choose to support financially or with donated
goods. ProjectLINK also includes examples of successful
vocational service projects that Rotary clubs can model
as they plan their own activities.
