ANNOUNCEMENTS

* President Patricia:

- warmly welcomed the Members and Visitors.

- noted apologies from Rtns. Dr. Claus, Cathryn, Ivan, Ray, Robin, SAA Mari, Peter L., Agnes, Alex, Robyn, and Gareth.

- THANKED the following members for inviting some Guests to our 9 September meeting:

T Peter E. & Rtn. Detlev for inviting Robert Rollings.
Rtn. Detlev for inviting Pete Ruwart and Angelo Bellini.

- invited VP Handy to read a very interesting POEM that he read on the District Mailing List recently:

Why be a Rotarian?

It's not for the money,
It's not for the fame,
It's not for any personal gain,
It's just for the love of fellow man
It's just to lend a helping hand,
It's just to give a little of self,
It's to do something you can't buy with wealth,
It's not medals worn with pride,
It's for the feeling deep inside,
It's the reward down in your heart,
It's the feeling you've been part of helping others far and near,

That makes you a Rotarian

by Club Secretary Garry Krischock
RC of Runaway Bay Queensland, Australia
District 9640

VP Handy then told the members that he so liked this POEM that he printed four copies and placed one (in a display stand) on each of our tables to remind us of WHY we joined ROTARY ........

- thanked:

Rtn. Detlev for raising yet another Rp. 2,200,000 from his now VERY famous Sunday luncheons for our Cleft Lip/Palate Project. Total collected to date - Rp. 37,588,000 !!! Heading towards a GOAL of Rp. 52,000,000 !!!

VP Handy for his contribution Rp. 300,000 for the West Java Earthquake Emergency Relief Program on behalf of RCBS.

fellow Board Members for working tirelessly with her on the budget and long-term goals.

PP Anita and IPP Urs for taking the place at the meeting for Sec. Tricia and SAA Mari who were absent.  She mentioned that support of every member is appreciated.

- asked the members to begin to start thinking about nominations for next year's President-elect and the Board of Directors.   Once a Slate of candidates has been approved and a Ballot made, the elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dec. 2009 during the Holiday Party.

- enthusiastically announced that Rtn. Robert E. had just returned from a very successful trip to Sumba where he was obtaining an update regarding Matching Grant ( MG) 68894 - Water Wells - Lewa, East Sumba . He will be providing an MG progress report concerning the current status of the project and the valuable time he spent with five NGOs and Village Heads in the region. In addition to the 14 wells the MG is providing, the Club is also building six wells funded by the Australian Government Direct Aid Program (DAP) grant, which former member Evelyn Cowled worked very diligently to secure for the Club.

- explained that DAP grant applications are now available for funding projects through the Australian Consul .  If members are interested in learning more information about these grants, please contact CP Asri Kerthyasa < asrikerthyasa@gmail.com > or P Marilyn Carson < moc@easyliving.com > at the RC Bali Ubud Sunset .

- mentioned that IPP Urs will be organizing a presentation for the Club concerning the Thalassemia / Thalassaemia disease in the near future and in addition solicit assistance from other organizations such as Bali International Women's Association (BIWA) to raise funds for this very important cause.

- auctioned off an Antique Sumba Mask for Andre Graff , Rtn. Raphaël's Guest Speaker a few weeks ago, who is currently organizing a number of water well projects in Sumba. And when the dust settled, the lucky winner was PP Anita, who paid a princely sum of Rp. 500,000.

- reminded the club that every Thursday evening at the Anantara Seminyak (located next to the Sofitel ) from 17:30 to 19:00 , there's a RCBS FELLOWSHIP Cocktail "moment."   All members and friends (POTENTIAL MEMBERS) are welcome.  Tel 737773 ext. 7802. for reservations (recommended).

- reminded members that copies of the new Members' Handbook are available.

* SAA Mari again - from afar - REMINDED the members, "NICELY," to DONATE some Prizes for the Weekly Raffle ....... We need these for our WEEKLY Fundraising .......

GUEST  SPEAKER

PAG Kamal was the guest speaker at the meeting.  Before beginning his talk, he informed the club that there will be a Rotary Foundation Seminar from 6 - 7 Nov. in Yogya and that all members are encouraged to attend.

PAG Kamal's topic for his talk was The Rotary Foundation (TRF) new strategic plan called "Future Vision Plan."   RI has developed this plan to make the Rotary Grant process
more simplified, increase a sense of "local" ownership, and make it more cost effective. He informed the club that presently each application costs about US$ 1,700 to process - demonstrating one of the many reasons a change was needed.

PAG Kamal, using a Power Point Presentation (PPP), took approximately 30 minutes and explained to the members the benefits of  THE ROTARY FOUNDATION - "FUTURE VISION PLAN"

For the full presentation, please see the attached PDF file. Should a member like a copy of PAG Kamal's PPP, pls contact CP Patrick.
