ANNOUNCEMENTS

* President Patricia:

- warmly welcomed the Members and Visitors.

- noted apologies from Rtns. Dr. Claus, Cathryn, T Peter, PP Sarita, Barbara, Silvie, Agnes, Marcantonio, Alex and VP Handy.

- THANKED the following members for inviting some Guests to our 26 August meeting:

SAA Mari for inviting Susan Lickert.
Rtn. Ray for inviting Ian Clark.
Rtn. Detlev for inviting RTanja Latussek & Olaf Gustke.
Rtn. Barbara for inviting Chris Lauder.

- invited Rtn. Raphaël to read the 4 WAY TEST.

- invited Rtn. Chris to do the "Keyhole into Rotary."   Rtn. Chris read the following regarding a Club Assembly :

A club assembly is a meeting of all club members, including officers, directors and committee chairs.  The purpose of club assemblies can be either to discuss your club's program and activities or educate members. New members should particularly be encouraged to attend club assemblies to learn more about the workings of your club.  Club assemblies help all members stay up to date and feel included in club activities.  Regular club assemblies that include all members and your assistant governor help to ensure that clear communication takes place between club leaders, club members and district leaders.
A club assembly allows for:

  • Goal setting and developing an action plan
  • Coordination of committee activities
  • Greater awareness of how your club's action plans are actually implemented
  • Informal discussions that stimulate creative solutions and activities
  • Ongoing education about Rotary and its programs
  • Review of your club's strengths and weaknesses

Relevant topics for discussion include:

  • Annual and long-range goals
  • Service projects and club activities
  • Membership growth and retention strategies
  • District conference or other district and RI meetings
  • The programs of Rotary
  • Any topic raised in open forum

- exchanged Club Banners with Secretary Robert Uhlenbeck from the RC of Bali Singaraja and Rtn. Philippe Bosseau from the RC of Chevreuse et sa Vallée, Yvelines, France.

l to r - Rtn. Putu Buderiasa , Secretary Robert and P Patricia.

l to r  Rtn. Philippe, P Patricia, Rtn. Raphaël and Mrs. Bosseau.

- thanked Rtn. Detlev for raising yet another Rp. 1,580,000 from his now VERY famous Sunday luncheons for our Cleft Lip/Palate Project.

- reported that the Members' Handbooks were FINALLY finished and then invited members to pick up a copy on their way home after the meeting.

- announced that unfortunately the RC of Ubud Sunset's Pajama Party Fundraiser had to be cancelled.

- informed the Club that an impromptu brainstorming session was held on Sunday,  23 August at the Canggu Club over dinner.  The discussion was on how the various committees might work together to maximize our efforts for our club.  This discussion will be continued at the 2 September Club Assembly Meeting when the Committee Chairs give their first Reports to the Club. During this meeting, all members will be encouraged to give their INPUT regarding the Club's Projects, Fundraising activities and annual GOALS . So please come ready with some Questions, Comments and IDEAS to make out Club the BEST ONE in the District ......

- said the PR Committee has approved placing an advertisement in the Australian International School Play - "The KING and I" from 14 - 17 September . Hopefully, this will attract some local community members to join our weekly luncheon or Anantara Resort Sunset Cocktail Fellowship , should they wish to learn more about Rotary in the Seminyak area.

- happily said that the Club had been approached by several overseas clubs expressing an interest in linking with us to apply for Matching Grants (MG) . In some cases, they want to give our Club funds directly for a specific projects.  However, to develop an MG and work with another club is a serious commitment , requiring a minimum of three Club members to see the project through to completion.

A good example of an MG in PROGRESS is the one Rtn. Robert E. and his Committee ( Rtns. Yanto, Ray and Gareth ) are completing currently in Sumba (MG 68894 - Water Wells - Lewa, East Sumba) .  Though this particular MG is developing nicely, the complexities of managing an "offshore" project has Rtn. Robert thinking that he needs some more capable hands assisting him.  Rtn. Robert is looking for a Club member who can travel to Sumba periodically, speaks Indonesian, can negotiate with laborers and contractors.  If any member is looking for some EXCITEMENT in their life, please contact P Patricia or Rtn. Robert ASAP. Tks .........

- told the members that she and CP Patrick had the pleasure of visiting the RC of Bali Ubud on Tuesday, 25 August .  It was very interesting to see how another club runs its meetings. P Mary K. of the RC of Bali Ubud asked when RCBS would be holding another quiz night as she and her members who attended our July evening, enjoyed themselves very much and would gladly come again. In addition to the GOOD company, the RCBU had a very interesting guest speaker, Lynette Johnson, the PR Manager for the John Hardy Jewelry Company here in Bali. During her informative talk, Lynette described their various products, methods of making their jewelry and their extensive social and environmentally sustainable programs. P Patricia spoke to Lynette after the meeting about being a Guest Speaker for us and during the chat, Lynette extended an invitation to our club to view their work shops in Ubud and enjoy a delicious Indonesian lunch afterwards.  P Patricia feels this could be a very interesting field trip for all.

- told the members that Carla Schnitker of Bolder, Colorado, USA , the Club's Guest Speaker on 22 July , was so impressed with the Rotary organization after her visit to our club, that upon returning home she became a Rotarian. She has also advised that she will transfer US$ 150.00 to RCBS to be used for the ongoing treatments for Dhani, the little boy who was severely burned after a motorcycle accident near his home in Kubutambahan, Buleleng, North Bali.  For further details, about Dhani and his family, pls click onto: http://rotaryseminyak.org/ club_project/current_project. php?prID=37

* PP Anita informed all members that the R.O.L.E Foundation was going to organize an INTERACTIVE Drum Circle in Nusa Dua on Tuesday, 8 September 2009. at 15:00. The cost will be Rp. 150,000 per participant which includes a drum, a light meal and a drink. http://www.rolefoundation.org/ index.html

* SAA Mari ASKED the members, "NICELY," to DONATE some Prizes for the Weekly Raffle ....... We need these for our WEEKLY Fundraising .......  She then THANKED the following members for DONATING some Prizes:

SAA Mari / bvilla+Spa for donating two SPA Treatment vouchers for two.
CP Patrick / Murano SPA for donating a SPA Treatment voucher for one .
